Project Overview
This engineering design project focused on building a custom flight simulator chassis to replace an older, unstable setup. Using Fusion 360 for CAD design and woodworking tools for fabrication, the chassis was engineered to meet strict requirements for load capacity, ergonomics, portability, and secure mounting of simulator controls.
The goal was to create a durable, immersive, and user-friendly simulator frame that could safely support heavy loads, stabilize flight controls, and enhance the training and entertainment experience.
Key Features
CAD-Driven Design
Modeled in Fusion 360 to meet requirements like load capacity, access panels, and ergonomic ranges.
Structural Strength
Constructed from wood to support 350 lbs; tested with barbell weights for safety and durability.
Control Stability
Mounted flight controls engineered to withstand ~30 lbs of force with less than 1 mm of play.
Portability & Security
Designed with lockable wheels for transport, fit through 28”-32” doors, and secured laptop mounting to prevent theft.
