Project Overview
This project focuses on building a portable free-space optical (FSO) communication system that uses laser beams to transmit data through the atmosphere. Unlike traditional RF and fiber networks, FSO offers higher bandwidth, immunity to electromagnetic interference, and enhanced security. The system will be designed to be low-cost and student-built, making it a practical prototype for research in aerospace, defense, and remote communication applications.
The goal is to design and prototype a budget-friendly, student-built FSO link that demonstrates reliable data transmission over free space while remaining accessible for future research in aerospace, defense, and remote communication applications.
Key Features
Optical Communication Link
Transmits and receives data using laser beams, enabling high-speed, line-of-sight communication.
Auto-Tracking Alignment
Servo-controlled tracking system ensures precise alignment between transmitter and receiver, even with environmental shifts.
Real-Time Signal Analysis
Integrates data acquisition tools for monitoring BER, SNR, and alignment tolerance in real time.
Low-Cost, Portable Design
Designed with budget-friendly components and compact assembly for student accessibility and field deployment.
